Kelly Owen
Kelly Owen is a 1988 graduate of Marianna High School. She attended Chipola College, where she received an Associate of Arts degree. Kelly graduated from Troy State University in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She immediately began her teaching career at Riverside Elementary School in Marianna, Florida as a Third Grade Teacher. While teaching, she continued her schooling at Troy State and received her Master's Degree in Education in 1996. She taught eleven years in the Jackson County School System before moving to Holmes County. She spent two years at Bonifay Middle School teaching 6th grade Language Arts before taking the new position of Reading Coach. She now serves grades 6th-12th at Ponce de Leon High School and has recently received her Educational
Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida.
Kelly is married to Jim Owen who is employed with CSX. They have one child - a daughter named Mahaley. Mahaley is not your typical girl - she loves bugs! Mahaley is in 3rd Grade and is loving every minute of it! Kelly loves spending time with her family, reading a good book (of course), fishing, and just spending time at home.
Kelly has the Reading Endorsement because she knows how important it is that we provide our students with effective reading instruction. As a reading coach, she has administered various reading assessments in order to determine students' strenghths and weaknesses so that teachers can address their individual needs.
